This one-day workshop is intended to provide an introduction on construction oversight and inspections associated with the construction or modification of a dam and/or appurtenant structures such as outlet works and spillways. The key learning objectives of the workshop include: 1) understanding observation and inspection considerations for dam construction, 2) roles and responsibilities, 3) understanding the importance of documentation and record-keeping, 3) dealing with unexpected conditions during construction, and 4) understanding design limitations. The workshop will provide good and bad construction examples and discuss key observations to be made in the field and how to document observations. A small-group exercise will focus on encountering and handling unexpected conditions during construction. This is an introductory workshop and an abbreviation of the 3-day ASDSO Construction Inspection seminar which provides more in-depth information on broader construction inspection and construction management topics.
