The average age of a dam in the United States is now >60 years. In addition to brining spillways into compliance with modern design criteria, as spillways age (especially reinforced concrete spillways), there may come a time when a decision has to be made to replace the spillway rather than continue to repair or modify it. This and other spillway assessment topics will be discussed based on the interest of the participants.
Learning Objectives:
At what point does a concrete-lined spillway need to be replaced versus repaired (normal maintenance)?
Assessing concrete-lined spillways versus earth-cut vegetated spillways.
