Jonathan D. Andrews, P.E. (MA/CT) is passionate about dam safety and has devoted the majority of his 34-year professional career to solving dam safety issues. Jon has worked his way up from field engineer to Vice President at GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA). GZA has been offering full-service dam safety engineering to our clients across the US for over 60 years. Mr. Andrews has been practicing dam safety engineering since GZA sent him to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the early 1990s to earn a Master of Science degree. Since then, Jon has been fortunate to work on major water supply and flood control dams in New England, including evaluations, rehabilitation designs, and construction support for the six largest dams and dikes in Massachusetts. As a classically-trained geotechnical engineer, his career started with the Big Dig in Boston and soon branched out to include bridges, buildings, embankments, retaining walls, and spent nuclear fuel storage facilities. However, Jon kept coming back to his passion working on dams. His dam safety experience includes a wide range of services: inspections; emergency action planning; prioritization and capital planning; engineering evaluations of seepage, stability, hydrology and hydraulics; permitting support; instrumentation; engineering designs, specifications and contract documents; and engineering services during construction.
