Staff Engineer
Schnabel Engineering
My name is Josh Parsons. I've been with Schnabel for about 2.5 years. I interned twice with Schnabel while in school at NC State University and started full time shortly after receiving my bachelor's degree in civil engineering. My experience at Schnabel early on involved assembly of CAD drawings and preparing documents for design reports and dam inspection reports. As time passed, I became more involved in in global stability and strength design of various concrete and steel structures including but not limited to, water and earth retaining concrete sidewalls, temporary pipe supports, steel catwalk components, and concrete catwalk piers. These design calculations were also accompanied by the assembly of structural drawing sheet sets in AutoCAD. A more constant aspect of my job experience has involved construction oversight of projects involving our design. As the sole representative of Schnabel on site, my roles involved ensuring construction was proceeding according to design, answering questions from the contractor and conveying problems to project engineers when needed, and creating field reports to document the work that was performed each day. The main construction oversight project I was stationed at was the low-level outlet drain construction at Lake Lure. I was frequently on site throughout the timeline of the project (late 2023-early 2025).
