Mr. Kappel is President and Chief Meteorologist of Applied Weather Associates (AWA). The focus of activity at AWA has been development of Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP), precipitation frequency development, long-term climatological analysis, meteorological trend analysis, forensic investigations, and application of climate change projections related to numerous meteorological variables that affect critical infrastructure. Mr. Kappel has been the chief meteorologist and project manager for 100’s of studies globally, working as the technical lead in the development, analysis, and publication of information. Mr. Kappel has also provided deposition and testimony as an expert witness for forensic meteorology investigations. Mr. Kappel has been a guest instructor at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and served as an on-air meteorologist for 10 years at various television stations across the country prior to joining AWA in 2003.
