Dan DeVaun is a Vice President and Senior Water Resources Engineer at GEI working with clients to solve water resource challenges in an ever-changing environment. His career over the past two decades has included service as an engineering consultant and a regulator in Michigan’s Dam Safety Unit. His experience includes supporting development of policy and law, implementing regulations, and designing and managing projects for; dam rehabilitation, dam removal, river restoration, watershed analysis and planning, and stormwater management.
While in his role with the State of Michigan, Mr. DeVaun served as the state-wide expert for regulatory review of dam removal projects and development of dam safety program improvement projects. In this role he reviewed permit applications and supported implementation and monitoring of dam removal projects as well as assisted in development of guidance for dam removal projects in Michigan. He also supported development of program policies, a grant program, and management of the dam inventory database.
As an engineering consultant Mr. DeVaun has been engaged in numerous dam rehabilitation, dam removal, river restoration, fish passage and watershed planning projects. These projects have been completed for federal, state and local agencies as well as private entities and non-profit organizations, in a wide range of urban and rural settings. Through these projects, Mr. DeVaun has gained extensive experience in navigating the social, environmental, and technical challenges of water resource projects.
