Hi! My name is Giselle Aviles, and I’m a first-generation Latina passionate about shaping the future of infrastructure through structural engineering. I recently graduated from Santa Clara University (SCU) with a degree in Civil Engineering and will be completing my master’s in Structural Engineering as part of the Class of 2026.
My passion lies in the structural design of bridges and dams. I’ve always been drawn to work that contributes to the public good, and civil engineering offers a meaningful path to enhance safety, functionality, and sustainability in our built environment.
Throughout my academic and professional journey, I’ve gained valuable experience through internships with the City of Dana Point Public Works, Whiting-Turner, Mott MacDonald, and Jacobs. Each role deepened my interest in how structural systems are designed, built, and maintained to serve society.
As a proud first-generation college graduate, I’m committed to increasing representation in STEM. I believe in breaking barriers and creating pathways for future generations of underrepresented students, especially young Latinas, to thrive in this field. Representation matters and I’m driven to be both an engineer and a role model in the profession.
