Richard Mickwee, P.E. (AL/GA) is the manager of the Hydro Dam Safety program for Southern Company, which includes the hydroelectric generating assets owned and operated by Alabama Power and Georgia Power. A 1997 graduate of Auburn University in Civil Engineering, Richard’s early career work was with regional geotechnical engineering consulting firms in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2005, joined the Hydro Services Dam Safety team for Alabama Power, rising to the Chief Dam Safety Engineer role in 2015. In 2022 Richard assumed his current role, where he leads the Alabama and Georgia dam safety teams as well as the Geostructural Services team stationed at Logan Martin Dam in Alabama. Richard’s dam safety experience includes dam safety inspections, surveillance, FERC compliance, geotechnical investigations and analyses, drilling and data interpretation, and engineering evaluations. Richard lives in Trussville, Alabama, with his wife and son.
